Das 16. Jahrhundert kann als das goldene Zeitalter der Blockflöte betrachtet werden. Am englischen Königshof war in jener Zeit kontinuierlich eine Gruppe fachkundiger Instrumentalisten offiziell als Blockflötenspieler angestellt: die Royal Recorders. Die vorliegende Einspielung repräsentiert die große Spannweite der musikalischen Idiome, die der Blockflöte am Anfang des 16. Jahrhunderts zu eigen war.
